Um, okay, why a Hardy Boys bookstore? Well, um, I'm not sure. :-) I think I'm firmly entrenched in Childhood #2.
I read my first Hardy Boys book somewhere around age 9, when I found two of the books at my Aunt Mae's house. They must have belonged to one of my cousins. I was a total fanatic until around 12 or so. Then, as I reached my teenage years, I put away my childish things as teenagers are so wont to do.
I hadn't thought about the Hardy Boys for a long time until I was doing some browsing at Amazon.com, looking for Christmas gifts for my nephews, and there they were. Besides Frank and Joe, I also found memories. Not just memories of the books themselves, but also memories of my life at the time I was reading them.
But I do remember how much I loved the books, and all the delight I got from searching for ones I didn't have. I'm sure I got the books at other places, but for some reason, I always remember going to Roses in Athens, Tennessee. It seems like I also got some of the books at TG&Y in Sweetwater, Tennessee. Neither of those stores even exists anymore.
Whatever store I went to though, they always had only a few of the books, and a lot of the time it was the ones I already had. Bummer! And so I suppose the truthful answer to the question "why?" comes out: the man in his thirties creates what the 10-year-old boy dreamed of--a store with almost all of the Hardy Boys books! =) The idea to create this has been a bug in my ear that I could not ignore.
The last of these books that I remember from my childhood is The Firebird Rocket, #57 (1977).
